Obituary

George Alsop Sprinkel IV was born on October 5, 1941, in Richmond, Virginia.  He moved to Winter Park in 1958 and graduated from Winter Park High School in the Class of 1959 – Go Wildcats.  He went to the University of Florida where he was active in the Sigma Chi fraternity, dabbled in theater and politics, and was a letterwinner as the head cheerleader – Go Gators.  He attended University of Florida College of Law and started his legal career in private practice in Orlando.  He went on to serve as a corporate attorney and public defender before being elected as an Orange County Judge in 1976.  The Governor appointed him to the Circuit Court in 1990 and he retired in 2008 after serving 32 years on the bench.  He loved the law and going to work every day.  His greatest pleasure came from performing adoptions and weddings.  He made a difference in the lives of many people and the world is a better place because of him.

George was active in the Congregational Church of Winter Park, serving as moderator and on the search committee for the church’s new pastor.  He loved golf, the Gators, cars, cars, and more cars (attorneys regularly checked out the Judges parking lot at the old courthouse to see what he was driving that week), his community of Winter Park, his neighborhood, friends, church, traveling, Wags- his dog, but most of all, he loved and was dedicated to his family.  He is survived by his wife Sarah and three children – Caroline who is married to Marco Santangelo and grandson Gabriel in Alexandria, Va; George V married to Katie Conners and grandchildren Sophie, Anna and George VI in Arlington, Va; and Clark married to Jennifer Grennan and grandchild Grace in Winter Park.  George was well loved by his many nieces, nephews, friends and the people whose lives he touched.  George lived a full and rewarding life and all are blessed who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Winter Park at 4:00 pm on Friday, December 17, 2021.  Memorial gifts can be made to First Congregational Church of Winter Park in his name.  Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.

We are so sorry to hear of George’s death. In all the years that we attended church together and raised our children -especially Clark and our daughter Katherine- together, we knew George to be compassionate, curious and filled with the joy of living. Our hearts go out to Sarah and Clark and the whole family. Love from Stephen and Patty Schoene
