Obituary

George Otis Wright, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021. He was 81 years old. He was surrounded by his wife and children when he died.

George was born in Kentucky on September 29, 1939 to Hazel and Otis Wright. He grew up in Salem, Virginia and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. After completing a tour of duty in the Mediterranean with the United States Marine Corps, George began studying computer programming and began a long career in this industry. He worked for IBM and Anheuser-Busch as a Systems Analyst before starting his own company, Sun Coast Computer Services.

George moved to Florida in 1968 and has lived in Port Orange for many years. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia Wright, his four children Crystal Rich (Kyle), Caprice Mackemer (Douglas), Jennifer Wright, and George Wright III (Alicia), as well as his six grandchildren and one great grandchild. George has two sisters, Betty Jo Robbins (deceased) and Carole Cole (Roy). Anyone that knew George knows that his family was his whole heart. He was fiercely proud of all of them and loved them unconditionally.

In addition to his love for family, George was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic supporter of the Florida State Seminoles. George traveled back to Virginia each summer to play golf with his high school friends as a life-long member of the “Salem Dudes Club”.

There are no services scheduled at this time, but his family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to offer love, prayers, and condolences. George would love you for loving them.  In lieu of flowers please donate to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

I am very sorry for your loss. George was an awesome person, and I worked with him back at my days at Norand Corp. He could interface into any IBM machine and have the data communicate to hand held computers for the Bud and Coke markets. He was a hard worker, and loved to travel my van or car back in those days. I had so many great memories of him and his wife and kids. You will be missed my friend, and saying a prayer for you and the family. God Bless.

I met George playing softball years ago and we then went on to golf together. He was one of the finest men I have known and a good friend.
I will see you soon at the 19 th hole.

I've known George for about 20 years as a friend and a fellow golfer. He always had nice things to say about people and he constantly bragged about his family and his Florida Seminoles. I have an autographed picture of him as the movie star extra on the set of The Longest Day. While his golf sometimes left something to be desired, his social skills were unmatched and he has been part of the glue that held the Daytona Travelers together over the years. I will miss him as will almost everyone who got to know him through our golf group.
