Obituary
G. Yolande Cameron passed along to God’s care on Friday, August 4th, in Daytona, FL, just 2 weeks shy of her 89th birthday.
Born Marie Georgette Yolande Talbot, August 19th, 1934, in Lewiston ME, to Jules and Jeannette
(Labrecque) Talbot, she was raised in the traditional Franco-American mores of that city and time. She
spent a lifetime balancing that conservative Catholic upbringing with her more independent and
ambitious nature. She was the widow of Lawrence ‘Joe’ Cameron, who passed in December 2022, with
whom she shared over two decades of love and companionship.
Yolande was an excellent cook and avid reader with a restless spirit. She also enjoyed fitness and
nutritional pursuits, both personally and professionally. Intelligent and self-motivated, she worked hard
throughout her life, beginning as a young woman in the Lewiston shoe mills and concluding in her
retirement years with Disney in Orlando doing ticket sales and French translation.
And she dearly loved her dogs.
Yolande is survived by her son, Ray Ames, and his wife Trish; her sister Connie and husband Willie
Cameron; her sister Jean and husband Raymond LeBel; her niece Cindy Cameron; her nephew Brian
Cameron; her granddaughter Heather and husband Matt Elrick; her granddaughter Rachel Ames; two
great-granddaughters; a grand-nephew and a grand-niece.
In addition to her late husband, she was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Kathy Ames; her
grandson, Paul Lydston; a nephew, Scott Cameron; and her brother, Julian Talbot.
Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Lewiston, ME at a future date.
