Obituary

GERALD ALLEN, 70

Gerald Franklin Allen, 70, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away April 29th, 2019. Gerald was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Winfred and Stella Allen on December 3rd, 1948.

Gerald was a man about town.  He spent time in Michigan; Napa, California, Huntsville, TX; Trinity, TX; Rawlins, Wyoming; Berthoud, Colorado; Kalispell, Montana; Lake Charles, Louisiana and Daytona Beach, Florida.  Throughout his 70 years, he had many interests.  He loved riding motorcycles, driving fast cars, going to the gun range, making his own ammo, golfing (but only when he hit under par!), watching golf, talking about golf, watching sports commentators talk about golf, going to golf tournaments, working at a golf course. . . . . well, you get the picture.  He used to drink Jack & Coke, then went to Jack with a splash of Coke and then finally settled on just plain Jack on the rocks.  He enjoyed cooking and really loved seafood, which likely came from his proprietorship of one of the best seafood restaurants in all of Trinity, Texas!  He loved his brother, Kenny’s, barbeque. He enjoyed traveling, taking a trip to Italy for his daughter, Valarie’s 40th birthday and Salt Lake City to visit his brother, Jim.  He loved to dance – country & western.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Stella Allen; his sisters, Marion Wilson and Beverly Stanford; his brothers Winfred (Junior), Eddie and Joe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patti Allen; his children (and spouses) Valarie, Gerald Jr. & Lisa, Ben & Amanda; his grandchildren Elijah, Noah, Ava and Mia; his brother and sister/sister-in-law Bonnie, William (Doyal), Jim, Kenny & Brenda.  Last, but certainly not least, the true love of his life, his dog Sophie.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Halifax Hospice of Volusia County, particularly the caregivers in Edgewater Florida, for their compassion and support in his final days.

In lieu of a burial service, Gerald elected to be cremated. He will continue his watch over Patti and his beloved Sophie at their home in Daytona Beach.
