Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) S. Szlaga, age 80, died on December 28, 2022 in The Villages, Florida. Beloved husband of Mary Ann, dear father of James (Maribeth), brother to Daniel (Mary Jo), uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jerry was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 28, 1942, son of Julia J. (Bilski) and Stanley J. Szlaga. Jerry and Mary Ann were married 58 years.

Jerry was a graduate of Salesian High School Class of 1960. After Jerry and Mary Ann married in 1964, they lived in several different Michigan cities. They were in Warren, Caseville, Bad Axe, and Traverse City. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and golfing. He had an uncanny memory of all the holes-in-one that he ever made and could tell which hole it was and where it happened.

Upon retirement from Dow Chemical Co., Jerry and Mary Ann left Bad Axe, moved to Traverse City and finally settled in The Villages, Florida. They enjoyed a leisurely life of golfing, and spending time with friends. Jerry loved his life in The Villages, whether it was playing golf, or working as a green’s keeper. He was efficient at golf equipment repair both in Michigan and in Florida. He loved helping his friends and repairing their clubs. Jerry was the go-to-guy for all golf equipment repairs.  He will be sorely missed.

Per Jerry’s wishes, his remains have been cremated. A memorial service and interment will be held in Marshall, Michigan at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-480-5959.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com
