Obituary

Geraldine “Gerry” Weatherly McCall (89), passed away peacefully in her home in Ormond Beach, FL to the Lord on September 15, 2022.

Gerry was born on February 23,1933, in Farrell, Mississippi. Throughout her life, she called many places home including Alabama, France, Michigan, California, North Carolina, and Florida. She had a love for life and an ability to connect with everyone she encountered. She had the gift of quick wit, humor, and an innate ability to remember the names and important details of her closest friends and many acquaintances. One thing everyone who knew Gerry could agree on was that her heart was huge. You could always find her visiting a friend who was in need or giving to someone who needed a little help. She was someone who could always be counted on, no matter what. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, nurse, loyal servant to her church, and remarkable storyteller. She was a very loving stay-at-home mother and cared immensely for her family. But of all the things she was, “Grandma” or “Grandma Gerry” was the title that she carried with the most pride. Her grandchildren were some of her most prized possessions and each one felt that. Each bond was unique from the next as “Grandma” had an ability to connect with each in their own special way.

Gerry and her late husband John met on a blind date while Gerry was in nursing school. John fell in love at first sight. Gerry needed some convincing and made him work hard to capture her love. She fell in love and traded in her silver dollar collection to get the money to travel to France to marry him on August 18, 1955. The two lived a beautiful life together – they set a great example of what a marriage should be.  In 1982, they built a beach house together at Ocean Isle Beach. That beach house became a very special place that holds countless memories for the family and all those they loved. Gerry’s friends and family have found comfort knowing that she is reunited with her husband John and their meeting in Heaven was surely one for the books spent dancing the night away.

Gerry was a dedicated servant of the Lord. Attending church and studying the bible were part of her daily routine. She motivated many of her family members and friends to nurture their relationship with the Lord as well. Attending church with Gerry was an honor. Following service, she always knew everyone in the gathering room and would gracefully speak to each person.

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents Hugh Weatherly Sr. and Jessie Duke (Lipton) and James Duke stepfather, beloved husband John D. McCall Jr., and grandson Greg Markle.

Gerry is survived by her five children: Kay, Mike (Anne), Terri (Greg), Tim (Patti) and Tom (Natalie), and her 40 grandchildren, which includes her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild. She’s also survived by her brother, Hugh Weatherly of Dothan, Alabama. Gerry was fortunate to grow a deep relationship with Lorrie Jones and Lytha Murton during the final years of her life. This bond was truly special and will always be cherished and appreciated by our family.

A service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 1:00pm at Seaside United Methodist Church, 1300 Seaside Rd SW, Sunset Beach, NC 28468.
