GERARD ALFRED BATES SR, “GERRY” 77

Gerard Alfred Bates (“Gerry”), 77, passed away, May 31, 2020 in Port Orange , Florida. Gerard was born March 9, 1948 to Gerard and Ann (MacDonald) Bates in Quincy, Massachusetts, the oldest of 3 children. He graduated from Las Alamedas High School in 1966.

Gerard served in the US Army in the Vietnam War . He met his beautiful bride, Jane Ann Bates, after the war and they married in

1973 in Las Vegas Nevada.

In 1973 Scott began a long career as a Design Engineer ,where he worked for NASA as a test Engineer and as a specialist for numerous oil firms across the state as a Design Engineer. He retired and Moved to port Orange Florida in 2018.  Gerry was a very proud man, spending time with his family and friends. He was actively involved in coin collecting, automobiles and firearms collections, and volunteered his time doing charity work at the local Scottish Society center.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Jane; Sons, Jody Belt, and Rusty Bates; brothers, Dan and Russel Bates; sisters, Judy (Bates) Fitzroy; cousin Don Jorgensen;  Grandson Paul Belt; daughter in law Susan Beener (Bates)
