Obituary
Giovanna P. “JoAnn” Kane
Age 83, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, on March 25, 2020, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, after a brief illness. Born February 20, 1937, in Arnold, PA, to Ernesto Podagrosi and Lucia DiPalma Podagrosi, JoAnn grew up in Cheswick, PA and graduated from Springdale High School in 1955. In 1962, she married Albert C. Kane, Jr. and moved to Fort Myers in 1971, beginning a 49-year adventure in southwest Florida. Shortly after arriving, JoAnn worked with L&M Development and was instrumental in the development of Myerlee, one of Fort Myers’ most successful residential communities. With Myerlee fully developed, she went on to enjoy a 23-year career as the Administrative Assistant to the Golf Course Superintendent at Fiddlesticks Country Club. JoAnn was dedicated to her work and to the legions of friends she and Al developed during their time in Fort Myers. JoAnn loved Christmas. She baked thousands of cookies, decorated beautifully themed trees, and hosted an annual Christmas Brunch that became a legendary social event in southwest Florida. She generously gave of her time and talents to those in need. JoAnn and Al served their church and contributed to the Fort Myers business community for nearly 50 years. JoAnn was preceded in death by husband Al, parents Ernesto and Lucia Podagrosi, beloved Uncle Jim DiPalma, brother Ernie Podagrosi, and nephew Victor Podagrosi. JoAnn is survived by sister-in-law Katy, nine nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, and many close friends and business colleagues. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of JoAnn’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2021 at The Church of The Resurrection of Our Lord, in Fort Myers.
