Obituary

Grace Anne (Blanco) Maguire went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 17, 2022. Grace, of Ocala, Florida and formerly of Groton and Ledyard, CT passed away peacefully with her loving husband of 50 years, Brian Maguire and daughters Beth and Julie faithfully by her side. They were the love of each other’s lives. Grace was the first daughter of the late Harold J. and Florence C. (Arsenault) Blanco. Grace was the beloved mother of Beth Marie DeBernardo and Julie Anne Stein. She was the loving mother in law to Scott DeBernardo and Ethan Stein. Grace was the proud grammie of Ryan, Mack and Madison DeBernardo and Caleb, Mason, Isabella and Sophia Stein. Grace was the loving sister to Jane Fobert and Vincent Blanco. She was predeceased by her parents and her older brother, Terrence Blanco. She was the Godmother to Michelle (Fobert) Anderson, Julie Pompeo and Blake Hartlieb. She will also be missed by her many friends, nieces and nephews.
Born in Hamilton, Bermuda to parents in the US Navy, Grace moved many times but called Groton, CT home for many years. Grace graduated from Fitch Senior High School class of 1967 and took an active role in planning class reunions. She furthered her education at New London Beauty Academy. Grace worked mostly in customer service and financial institutions such as Shop Rite, Chelsea Groton Savings Bank, and Foxwoods Casino but her most important calling was of wife, mother and grandmother!
Grace never met a stranger! If you were her friend, you had a friend for life! Grace loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends. Then she would take photos to preserve the memories! Grace loved to bowl, paint ceramics, basket weave and make homemade photo albums. Grace was an active member of the Navy Wives Club and cheered loudly for the UCONN girls basketball team. Grammie Grace was so proud of all her grandchildren’s accomplishments; she always had stories to tell and pictures to share. Grace loved to travel with her soulmate, Brian, friends and cousins to North Conway, NH, Sturbridge, MA, Gorham, ME, Hawaii, Italy, Bermuda and especially cruise to the Bahamas.
Grace was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart in Groton, Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Ocala, FL. Grace was a member of the Ladies’ Guild at Our Lady of Lourdes. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 22, 2022 at 10:00 am. A reception will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes church hall.
