Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Arthur Worny, 73, announce his passing on December 5, 2021. Greg is survived by his wife Mary Damato Worny, daughter Jessica Worny Janicki (Joseph), son Benjamin Worny (Christy), and granddaughters Vivian and Eva Janicki and Stella and Violet Worny. Greg, son of the late Arthur B. Worny and Helene (Kiefer) Worny is also survived by his siblings Christine Worny (Marvin Cohen), Susan Sicks (Donald), Timothy Worny (RuthAnn), Polly Jones (Howard) and Amy Barber (Kenny).
Greg, of Fort Myers, Florida, grew up in Park Ridge, IL and graduated from DePaul University with a BSC in Marketing. Greg served in the Army Reserves for 6 years, where he liked to say he learned discipline and how to work hard. Greg started his career with Peoples’ Gas Company and rose to lead corporate planning as well as sales and marketing functions in the automotive manufacturing and aftermarket car industries, including American Motors and AP Parts. Over the years, he lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and North Carolina.
Later in life, he discovered his love of teaching as both a public school substitute teacher and Master Trainer at Perrigo, Inc. Greg and Mary retired to Fort Myers, FL in 2017, leaving their beloved Lake Michigan behind.
Greg will be remembered for his quiet friendship and sense of humor along with his love for books, dogs, birds, the Bears and Ohio State football teams, and LOUD music. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, who love to read.
Greg’s life will be honored on January 8th, 2022 at 10:30 am in a Memorial Service at St. Boniface Cemetery, 4901 N. Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois. The service will be followed by a luncheon in Greg’s honor. Guests should take note of the City of Chicago’s indoor mask mandate – all guests must wear masks while indoors – as well as the City of Chicago’s vaccine mandate for restaurant dining.
The family requests no flowers; in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests donations to Holland Rescue Mission or Tunnels to Towers.com.
Rest In Peace Greg.
