Obituary

Gurine (Flickinger) DeLonjay passed away on March 15, 2022 at the age of 89.  She was a loving wife and mother.  She was born in 1932 to Gladys (Prond) and Fredrick Flickinger.  She graduated from Woodward High School in Toledo, OH in 1950.  She married her beloved husband of more than 66 years, Russell DeLonjay, on August 20, 1955.  They spent many happy years together raising two daughters (Renee & Cindy) and traveling the world.  They lived in Toledo until 1969 when they moved to Allen Park, MI.   In 1973 she began working at AAA in Dearborn, MI where she held several positions as insurance adjuster, supervisor and sales system trainer.  She retired from there in 1993.

Both before and after retirement they travelled extensively.  They traveled all over North America by RV and occasionally by motorcycle. They also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and through the Panama Canal.  Though they traveled often the place she loved best was the family cottage at Big Wolf Lake in Napoleon, MI which eventually became their summer home.  She loved the water activities and drove her Seadoo until she was 85.  They spent 20 years as extended snowbirds in Florida spending time in Sebastian, Vero Beach and finally The Villages.

They developed many lifelong friendships along the way and acquired three honorary grandchildren as well.

She is survived by her husband Russell DeLonjay, her Daughters Cindy DeLonjay and Renee (DeLonjay) Speitel, her son in-law Ray Speitel, her first cousin Penny (Prond) Hyott and her husband Michael Hyott, their children and grandchildren and cousins and extended family.  She will be missed by all as she was a loving and caring person who would so anything for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to be made in her name to either Diabetes research or the Dementia Foundation for a cure.
