Harold Joseph Frederick Bergsten, Jr. (85) of Orlando, Florida, went into the more immediate presence of the Lord early in the early morning hours on Friday, December 29, 2017. Harold’s passing was due to sudden cardiac arrest.
Harold was born on October 25, 1932 in Coffee County Kansas and spent his early years in Gridley Kansas. He started college at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS and transferred to University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and played baseball. He met the love of his life, Carol Janice Weeks, and they were married June 1, 1955, six days before he graduated. He went on to work in structural engineering for the next 62 years, which was a big part of his life. He earned his P.E. License and continued to work into 2017. After moving to Florida in 1987, he was able to participate in projects with Disney and NASA, among many other exciting projects. Throughout his life, he continued to grow his spirituality and in love of God. He had a love of astrology and the stars. He would combine the two and pray under the stars. Harold very much enjoyed his family, eating, and his engineering profession, not necessarily in that order. Throughout his life he also enjoyed umpiring, refereeing, bowling, square dancing, golf, sports, reading the newspaper, solving puzzles, and spent thousands of hours playing cards. He had a wonderful laugh that everyone loved to hear.
Although we are apart, his love will live forever in our hearts. We know he has been welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven by others missed on this earth. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Joseph Frederick Bergsten, Sr. and mother, Anne Pearl Motzkus Bergsten, numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. His fun-loving wife of 62 years, Carol Bergsten, was by his side in his final hour. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, three children and spouses, Barry and Kim Bergsten (Cedarville, OH), Bruce Bergsten (Topeka, KS), and Sara and Paul Bradley (Charlotte, NC); 10 grandchildren and spouses Angie and Chad Puffer (Byron, MN), Aimee and David Farmer (Charlotte, NC), Tiffany Bergsten (Hutchinson, KS), Michael and Matt Tatro (Wichita, KS), Madison and Kyle Galvin (Wichita, KS), Alexander Bradley (Charlotte, NC), Candice Bennington (Highland Heights, KY), Tobey and Cameron Foss (Gill, CO), Macey Bergsten (Topeka, KS), and Kara Bennington (Kettering, OH); He has one great grandchild, Linden Puffer (Byron, MN) and another one due in March 2018.
