Obituary

Harold “Hal” Price Verity III, 61, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  Hal was born on April 5, 1961 in Village of Greenport, New York, the only son of Peggy Author and Harold P. Verity, Jr.  Hal spent most of his childhood in Port Orange, Fl, where he graduated from Spruce Creek High School.    He then moved to Orlando where he dedicated over 30 years to the Orlando Sentinel working as an electronic paginator and where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing cars with his boys, Jeremy and Price.

Hal was a jack AND master of all trades, he could fix absolutely anything, and had the tools to do so.  He took great pride in researching the problem, finding a solution and setting about repairing or resolving it.    He was especially skilled and enjoyed working on cars; many a day and night were spent in the garage.   Hal was patient, non-judgmental and loved his family fiercely and unconditionally.    He was quick to help others expecting nothing in return.  He was happiest at home watching movies, cooking – mashed potatoes and mac n cheese were fan favorites, and mostly spending time with his family, including their 3 pups.

Hal was preceded in death by his father, Harold P. Verity, Jr, his mother, Peggy Author, stepmother, Sophia Martin and daughter Candis Hammond.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret Verity, sons Jeremy (Lauren) Verity, Price (Grayson) Verity, his grandchildren, as well as his sisters, Sue, Cheryl, Renee, Lisa, brother Chris, and their families.

At Hal’s request, there will be a private memorial.   In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Hal’s memory.

We remember Hal very dearly as whenever we were outside with our kids he would always talk to them. Both of my little ones were so fond of him. He would take my little boy on a ride on his lawn mover and it was his favorite thing. He was such a nice and genuine person and the most amazing neighbor. May your soul rest in peace.

At first I admit I was pretty nervous to meet the father of, what was then, my future son-n-law. But honestly, he and Margaret were absolutely two wonderful people to meet and I was amazed by their hospitality. They instantly made us feel as if we are family. In getting to know Hal better, I quickly realized how alike he and his son were and this made me even more fond of Price. He was a great man, loved by many, and always had a smile on his face. My wife and I are glad we had the chance to meet him. Rest knowing you are loved and you have really great children to carry on your legacy.

Hal will certainly be missed by all who knew him. Deepest sympathies to Margaret and his sons.
