Obituary:
Harry August See, age 93, resident of The Villages, Florida, passed away at 12:12 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Watercrest Spanish Springs Assisted Living Facility, Lady Lake, Florida.
He was born on September 3, 1930, in Saugerties, New York to James and Margret See. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, and sister. Harry married the love of his life, Gloria See, on May 4, 1957. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter.
Harry is survived by his oldest son James See (sp. Martha); second son Robert See (sp. Christine); and daughter Debbie Draper (sp. Robert “Bob” Draper); alphabetically listed: six grandchildren (Alexis, Charlie, Haleigh, Heidi, Madelyn, and Mitchell): nine great-grandchildren (Allie Grace, Blake, Braden, Braxton, Devin, Dillon, Kylie, Mason, and Tatum); and beloved former Daughter-in-Law (Dawn) and Son-in-Law (Jacob).
He was a retired Engineer for both the US Air Force and IBM Corporation, recognized as an avid blood donor, regarded as an unfailing volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, annual supporter of numerous national charities and initiatives i.e. Disabled American Veterans, AMVET, Paralyzed Veterans of America, American Legion, Boys Town, and several local Florida charities/organizations.
Harry devoted his life as a loving husband and great provider for his family. As a father he ensured the well-being of his sons and daughter. He journeyed with his children as they grew into adulthood. Upon hindsight, his children admit that his advice was always available when they asked and (with a wink of left his blue eye he admitted even when advice was not solicited but needed). His ability to be stern and forthright earned him admiration. He was considered a good, thoughtful, and caring friend to most of his acquaintances while serving in the military, various workplaces, his neighborhoods, and just about anyone he came to know.
Both Harry and Gloria greatly rejoiced and embraced their retirement after 25+ years at IBM. They worked very hard and meticulously planned towards a vision to achieve a carefree and peaceful existence in their latter days. With retirement status, one last great decision was a final move and chose Florida as their last destination. They wisely chose a senior community that provided a variety of activities to keep them engaged and in a safe environment filled with other retirees of their age.
He was a devout Christian who accepted JESUS as his Lord and Savior. Gloria and Harry attended St. Timothy Catholic Church on Saturdays and always arrived early to ensure they sat in their favorite pew by the entrance doors. They loved taking their visitors to their favorite restaurants (Chick-fil-A, Culver’s and Bob Evans) where they were loved and catered to by the employees. For leisure time with their family, friends and neighbors, they participated in community “social” gatherings, blood drives, various volunteer efforts, played golf, shared favorite music from Gloria’s collection, enjoyed dinning and listening to live bands with friends at the Villages Square, frequented the neighborhood pool and explored Florida beaches as a family activity.
Harry and Gloria was dedicated to their children and especially dedicated in loving, caring and spoiling their grand and great-grand children. From the Family: The family would like to express enormous gratitude and thanks to the numerous individuals who befriended and watched over mom and dad as they gradually transitioned into a much slower pace of activities and travels during the past few years.
From James and Martha: It is with heartfelt, special and sincere thanks to all of you for welcoming us to the community, personally reaching out in-person or by phone; providing encouragement; supporting us in rendering the “hands on” assistance that mom and dad so badly needed and for taking the time to pray with us and for us while we struggled over a two year’s journey of successes and set-backs. We don’t have to list names but you know who you are and what you do! We pray in JESUS name that GOD blesses you forever!!!
You are invited to join us as we pay tribute and celebrate Harry!
