Obituary

Harry J. Christopher and Rosalie B. Christopher of North Fort Myers, Florida

Harry J. Christopher, aged 90, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, in Cape Coral, FL, following an accidental fall on June 5, 2023. Just twenty-three days later, his wife, Rosalie B. Christopher, aged 84, peacefully passed away on June 29, 2023, at Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte, FL. Harry and Rosalie had been married for nearly 65 years, and their love and devotion to each other served as an inspiration to all who knew them.

After spending most of their lives in Media, Pennsylvania, Harry and Rose relocated to North Fort Myers in 2003.

Born on March 5, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA, Harry James Christopher was the son of the late Louis and Victoria Christopher. He grew up in Media, PA, and sadly, his sister, Marge N. Miller, passed away in 2015. Harry graduated from Media High School in 1951, attended Keystone Business School from 1951 to 1953, and earned his degree from Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in 1963.

Harry was a dedicated member of St. Georges’ Greek Orthodox Church in Media, PA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Bainbridge, MD, in 1953, and received an honorable discharge four years later. Harry’s remarkable career spanned nearly three decades, beginning in 1961 with the Social Security Administration in Philadelphia. In the early 2000s, he served as the local tax collector for Upper Providence Township (Media) in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Billiards held a special place in Harry’s heart, a skill he cultivated during his youth under the guidance of his father, a respected owner of several pool halls in Media, Pennsylvania, from the 1930s to the mid-’70s. Even in recent times, Harry continued to showcase his expertise in billiards among friends and acquaintances in Lee County, Florida, as well as at Del Tura Golf & Country Club in North Fort Myers, where he and Rosalie resided for seventeen years.

Harry possessed an unwavering commitment to self-improvement, actively pursuing growth in various aspects of life until the very end. Whether it was health, diet, exercise, or business and personal development, he wholeheartedly embraced opportunities to enhance his knowledge. Harry attended seminars, devoured books, immersed himself in podcasts, absorbed audiotapes/CDs, and delved into a wealth of educational content on YouTube. His passion for learning shone through as he fearlessly adjusted his perspectives and opinions when presented with new information. Harry generously shared his wisdom with his sons and anyone fortunate enough to be in his inner circle, extending a helping hand to improve their quality of life.

Rosalie Shelda Buisson Christopher was born on May 20, 1939, to George Buisson and Mildred Lofthouse in Elkton, MD.

Rosalie dedicated herself to the role of a homemaker during her children’s formative years and continued even after they had left the nest. She found joy in preparing meals from scratch, taking pleasure in the art of cooking. Additionally, she possessed an enthusiasm for discussing hair, fashion, and nails, which persisted until shortly before her passing. The nurses at the hospice house attested to her active involvement, as she proactively offered fashion recommendations to them. Rosalie’s impeccable sense of style and appearance served as a testament to her deep passion for fashion. She consistently exuded elegance, always looking impeccably groomed and stylishly adorned.

In her younger years, Rosalie actively participated in Beta Sigma Phi from 1969 to 1978, a local sorority dedicated to community events, charities, and fundraisers. From 1975 to 1980, she worked as a receptionist at Sleighton Farm School in Glen Mills, PA, a juvenile detention facility.

For over forty years, Rosalie faced the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis with courage, while Harry provided unwavering support as her primary caregiver. They are survived by their sons, Louis H. Christopher of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, and Gregory J. Christopher and his wife Donna of Punta Gorda, Florida. Rosalie is also survived by her sister, Linda (Sami) Buisson Daniel of Overbrook, PA, her niece Aletha Sangiray of Richmond, VA, and a few cousins.

Instead of funeral services, a Celebration of Life will be organized this fall in Florida. This gathering will provide an opportunity for their friends, who spend part of the year in the northern US and Canada, to come together and honor their lives. The specific date is yet to be determined.
