Obituary

Haruyo (Happy) Baker passed away in her 79th year on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 in the afternoon.  She was born in 1943 to Sadao (father) and Akiko (mother) and raised in Japan. She came to the US for college in 1963 and went to Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas. She graduated with a masters degree in English and began her career as a teacher.  There she met her husband Kenneth Baker Jr. and developed her stamp business in 1975.  Her first son, Kenneth Baker II, was born in 1972.  Her second son, Michael Baker, was born in 1981.  She had a happy marriage with Kenneth Baker Jr. until he passed away in 2008.

After her husband passed, she met George Tonkin.  Curt Sebring, a mutual neighbor, introduced them.  They married on September 3rd, 2012.  They enjoyed the last ten years of her life together, loved to go to car shows, go for long walks and spend time with their neighbors.  One of her favorite activities was a Zumba exercise class. She was always happy and brought joy to those around her.  She was very witty and was always quick to make someone laugh.  She was very dedicated to her work and did so as long as she was able.  Haruyo was also a loving and dedicated mother, wife, and friend to all that knew her.

Haruyo is survived by George Tonkin (husband), her two sons Kenneth Baker II (Annette), and Michael Baker (Kristy) and her four grandchildren Kayla, Kendra (Fletcher), Tony and Brennan.  She is also survived by her sister Kayoko and her brother Sadao.

From George’s family she is survived by Sherry Acevado (daughter) her husband Eddie, Jennifer (granddaughter), great-grandson Cameron, and predeceased by Eddie George Nunzio (grandson).  George has four brothers; Harrold Tonkin, Richard Tonkin, predeceased by Irving Tonkin, and Donald Tonkin.

In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
