Obituary

Henry John (Swiatek) Swen, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away in his sleep on October 9, 2021.  Henry was born on January 9, 1931, in Meriden, CT to John Swiatek and Karolina Osianka, and had three sisters, Stacy, Josephine, and Jeanette.  He received a Bachelor of Science from Central Connecticut State University and was a Korean War Veteran.

 Henry worked with The Napier Company for 38 years while living in South Florida where he married his first wife and raised three children.   He received the Silver Beaver” award from the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America, in 1975 for many distinguished years of council-level service.  He also served as a board member of various trade organizations for over 25 years.

 Henry and his second wife, Nancy Abel, married in 1989, and retired and moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1993.  After retirement Henry co-authored the book The Napier Co., Defining 20th Century American Costume Jewelry. His greatest satisfaction however was derived from being a Guardian ad Litem” within the Florida Court System. He spoke for the child in school, court or wherever a child needed a knowledgeable and responsible spokesperson.

 Henry is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, John, Suzanne, and Stephen; his stepson, Rick; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Alex, Viktor, Robert, Jennifer, and Jonathan; three step-grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan, and Stephen; and several great grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his stepdaughter, Kathy and his grandson, Nathan.
