I looked up and called Mr. Edson out of the blue to ask him about his father, who I had been studying. Herbert talked to me for over an hour telling me stories about Merritt. Herbert told me about his own life in the Marine Corps, what it was like being Merritt son. It was a conversation I will never forget.

    What a wonderful man.
