Obituary

Herman R. “Dick” Joyce, 85, of Edgewater, Fl passed away peacefully Friday, July 19, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family members.  Dick was born December 30, 1933 in Winter Haven Fl.  He was a graduate of Lyman High School, in Longwood, and served in the US Navy Seabees as a mechanic.  Dick worked in family business for Joyce Construction with his father Herman and D&D Mechanic Shop with his brother David. In 1969 Dick founded Dick Joyce Well Drilling, Inc., which remains in operation today.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Joy A. Joyce, his parents, Herman Rodman Joyce and Thelma Francis (Perrigo) Joyce, his brother David M. Joyce and sister Patti Helms.  He is survived by his sister Lynne Stevens, son James R. Joyce (Kortney), daughters, Kristi Wells (Steve), Jackie Selman (Matt), Melanie Miller (Ted), Suzanne Salley (David), Sandi Kimball (Randy), Wendy Cochran, Roxanne Hadden (Ronnie), 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and longtime friend and caregiver Chrysta Binkley.

Dick’s passion was racing in the 1960’s and 70’s.  He drove his #89 to many victories in Orlando, Eau Gallie, Deland, and tracks surrounding central and north Florida.

Dick never met a stranger!  He brought two bicyclist who had come from Germany to “dip their toes in the Atlantic, and bike to California to dip them in the Pacific”, home with him after meeting them at a convince store on his way home from work. He was voted Father of the Year by the Sanford Herald after a submission by one of his children. He loved laughter and lived life to it’s fullest.  If you ever needed a hand, his was never far out of reach.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dick’s name to VITAS Home/Hospice Care, 114 Canal St., Ste. 100, New Smyrna Beach, Fl. 321688

Didn't know Dick personally but loved to watch his innovative cars race. He was a great driver and seemed like a very fair and good driver. I loved to watch him beat the big guys. RIP Dick and thanks for the memories.
