Obituary
Mrs Ingrid Edeltrud Vanasse Born June 6 1929 Entered eternal Life January 14 , 2019 daughter of Wilhelm and Elisabeth Messlin born in Kolmar, Poland raised in Rawitsch near Polish-German border, the fourth of five children, Eduard, Irmgard, Roswitha and Gustav. Her father was Principal of the private school they all attended. In 1945 the approach of the Russian military forced them to flee and eventually settle in Bavaria, mother younger brother Gustav and sister Roswitha. Ingrid’s love of children led her to pursue a career in nursing where she went to a Deaconess sisters Nursing school in Munich and became a pediatric nurse. To improve her English she sought governess positions with american families some from the American consulate or military officers families. Through a friend learned of an opening with the actress Anne Baxter who was filming a movie in Munich, which led to her coming to New York as Anne’s governess on a work visa, due to her profession as a pediatric nurse was able to obtain a permanent visa and become a US citizen in 1960. She settled in Northhampton, Ma. with her older sister Irmgard working in area hospitals until her marriage to Norman Vanasse in October 1956, she left nursing to raise her three children Michelle, Mark and David and took a part time position at a children’s clothing store where she would do their seasonal window decorating. After the children got older she returned to nursing taking a position at Smith College Infirmary until its closure when she was offered a position in the kitchen of a Sorority house of approximately 20 students which she enjoyed very much until her retirement and move to Florida in 1989 to be near her sister Roswitha her daughter Michelle and Norman’s brother and sister and their spouses. Ingrid was active with her church family Trinity Lutheran in Easthampton, Ma.with choir and putting on dinner’s which she continued with her new church family at Faith Viera she enjoyed sewing her own clothing, knitting, crocheting, baking, cake decorating, gardening, being outdoors, late in life took up cross country skiing. She leaves behind a sister Roswitha a daughter Michelle a son David two grandchildren Ryan Jones and Micheal Birdsall, she was loved by all who came to know her, her memory will live on in our hearts. Memorial Service to be at Faith Viera Lutheran Church Rockledge, Florida 32955 January 27 2019 at 1PM
