Obituary

Iracema Gavilanes, 85 of Daytona Beach Shores died Thursday, December 31, 2020 with her family by her side.  Iracema was born April 23, 1935 in Sao Paulo, Brazil to the late Francisca and Luis Rodriguez.  She married the love of her life Bernardino Gavilanes on May 30, 1959 in Sao Paulo.  They moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1960 to raise their four children and as a family they moved to the United States in 1983 from Puerto Rico.  Iracema was a seamstress and as her family declares her, she has an honorary doctorate degree as a chef, life coach, and patriarch of the family.   She will be remembered for her authentic kindness, selflessness and dedication to her family.  Iracema was preceded in death by her husband, Bernardino in 2011.  She is survived by her adored children, Luis (Janet) Gavilanes of Ponce Inlet, FL, Juan Gavilanes of Oviedo, FL , Iracema (Chris) O’Brien of Ponce Inlet, FL and Maria (AJ) Schmitt of Oviedo, FL; daughter-in-law, Kharina Gavilanes; grandchildren, Jeannette (Eric), Margaret (Tasos), Genesis, Felipe, Annmarie, Christina, Luis, Isabela, and Daniel; great grandchildren, Eric, Alexander Miguel, Tasos, and Amelia, and siblings, Elena, Juracy and Waldemar Rodriguez.  A Funeral Mass will be held 3PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Epiphany Catholic Church, 201 Lafayette Street, Port Orange with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
