Obituary

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Irene A. (Rancourt) Lavallee, 76, died peacefully with her husband of 57 years, James (Jim) G. Lavallee Jr. and only child, Heather (Lavallee) Finch by her side.  She also leaves behind her son-in-law, W. John Finch and granddaughters, Molly and Ashley, who loved to make her laugh, and older brother Armand Rancourt of Pawtucket, RI. She was the youngest child of the late Raymond Rancourt and late Eva (Perrault) Rancourt.  Preceding her in death were also her brother Arthur Rancourt and sister, Theresa.

Irene was born in Massachusetts on March 2, 1945, grew up in Central Falls, RI and lived in Pawtucket, RI until retiring to Port Orange, FL 20 years ago.  There, she and Jim enjoyed daily walks, going to Walt Disney World and socializing at bingo and other community activities with the many friends they made there.  She also learned to paint with watercolors and created many works of beautiful art. She carried a prayer journal, wrote down every prayer request she was given and prayed for each without fail.

She will be forever remembered for her long, animated, humorous story-telling that caused many friends and family to experience belly-aching, side-splitting, breath-stopping laughter.  She loved to cook and bake and she was extraordinary at both.

In lieu of flowers, make someone smile and commit to praying intentionally, for a request someone has asked you to pray for.

Irene's smile and kindness is what I remember most. I met her when I babysat Molly and Ashley years ago. Heather is much like her and Molly and Ashley like Heather, so Irene's "shine" lives on. God Bless!

I knew her years ago when I watched Molly and Ashley. Always smiling and so kind. Heather is a lot like her mother that way and now her granddaughters also. Irene's "shine" will live on through them! God bless!

Heather and I met in pre-school just a few short years ago and were thick as thieves growing up! I can still hear Mrs. Lavallee's giggle no matter what we were talking about. She introduced me to ham sandwiches with butter on one side and mustard on the other, delicious! I still make her famous beef stew and biscort for my family and everyone hears the story of how I got the recipe from my second home. We moved to Georgia 10 years ago and were blessed to stop and visit Mr. and Mrs. Lavallee on our way through Florida. What a blessing to know, love and be loved by Mrs. Lavallee ❤️

I was blessed to have been part of Irene life and enjoyed when I got to see her on our family video chats. She will be missed and I know she is up in heaven having a great chat with my mother as well. Shining down upon those she loves.
