Obituary

J Edgar “Larry” Lawrence Rowland, 61 of Sanford died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, February 9, 2012.  Larry, a native Floridian, was born in Gainesville, FL on August 3, 1950.  Raised in Pompano Beach, FL he became an avid surfer and loved the water.   During college he was a youth pastor sharing the love of Jesus Christ for all to know Him as deeply as he did.  After graduating Florida Bible College in 1974 he started a career with Winn Dixie as a manager in Raleigh, North Carolina and then in Fort Pierce, Florida.  In 1986 Larry moved to Central Florida and started his career in sales.  In 1989 he joined the Tom James Company selling custom clothing and excelled so quickly that he achieved the President’s Club Award within three years.  Larry was an inspiring man to his family, friends and clients who were like family to him.  He took great pride in helping others look good and feel great in their new attire.  Larry was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors on January 4, 2012.  Even with this news, he never stopped trusting in Jesus or sharing the gospel with those around him often saying, “The good news is I get to see Jesus, the bad news is I get to see him before you do”.  He loved the Lord and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was extremely saddened that he had to leave his family behind.  Larry is survived by his loving wife, Mary; six children, Christy Peters, Deborah Calhoon, Joy Mentz, Blake Kelly, Lauren Kelly and Danielle Fredericks and six grandchildren, Emma, Adin, Ian, Taylor, Lexi and Mackenzie.   A Life Celebration will be held 10:30AM, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Northland Church, (where he was a member for 20 years) at 530 Dog Track Road, Longwood.  A Life Celebration will be held 10:30AM, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Northland Church, at 530 Dog Track Road, Longwood.

    Harriet & Mike Noel says:
Larry, a very precious friend, you will be missed by so many.Even thought we did not know you a long time, your sweet "Jesus" spirit touched both of us deeply. We will continue to be an everlasting friend to Mary and your loving family.Love and prayers to all the Rowland family. Daniel 12: 2-3 leaves us all singing your praises in agreement with God's word: You will awake to everlasting life! Those who are wise will shine like brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever. Everytime we look at the sky and see God's starry heavens we will remember you, our friend, and know you are looking right back at us. Love and prayers, Yates and Mike.

    Buz Ausley says:
Larry was a friend for 20 years - I was also his customer, and I looked forward to his visits. It wasn't necessary to ask him about his faith because it was evident in everything he said and did. I will miss but still remember his joyous spirit and his cheerful personality and try to live up to his example. We know where he is now and that gives us comfort and confidence.

    Cyndi Gratz says:
I was so saddened to hear of Larry's passing. Larry and my husband Jeff were good friends during high school, Pompano Youth Ranch and Florida Bible College and kept in touch through the years. They both loved life so much and had many great times together surfing, boating, sharing the gospel and just loving life in general. Larry was one of the happiest people I have ever met and I will never forget his smile. He was of great support and encouragement to me when Jeff passed away from cancer 3 years ago. I can only imagine what the two of them are up to in heaven! My thoughts and prayers are with his family as I know he will be missed so much.

    Ed Piatkowski says:
I was a client of Larry's. I also have a career in sales. Larry was the role model for our profession. Commitment to customer service, timely follow-up, and professionalism were his hallmarks. I enjoyed receiving his regular phone calls during which he always asked about me and my family before my clothing needs. He was the nicest man with a gentle way about him. God Bless Larry Roland.

    Victoria Williams says:
I've known Larry many years from him coming to our office. Larry, I will surely miss always running into you, those divine appointments, I loved the grace with which you softly walked through all of life's trials, and some of those trials so difficult, I will miss your never ending smile, words of encouragement that you so easily handed out, and the conversations we would inevitably have about the Lord. I will see you on the other side, Larry. And Mary, you don't know me, but all Larry did whenever I saw him was talk about what a beautiful person you were and how blessed he was to find you. My prayers are with you all.

    Phil Fretwell says:
I have known Larry for almost 20 years - first through buying clothes from Tom James, and later as a friend. I used to tell Larry that I learned more about sales from him than anyone else i had ever known. Over the years, Larry became a good friend and always gave great advice - not only on clothes but also on life. When we met, he not only handled his professional responsibilities, but also always had some spiritual conversation. He and I shared a love of Jesus Christ, and this foundation made our relationship much more than business. I will miss Larry's time and energy, and his consistent focus on doing what Jesus wanted him to do. He was a good friend - I am looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

    Bill Miller says:
I have known Larry for approximately 20 years. During that period he has been my clothier and became my friend. We had many conversations during his visits to my office , as we both faced different challenges in our lives over those 20 some years. The one constatnt was his and my love for our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Larry taught me that even in the toughest times Christ loves us and will never leave us. May our Lord continue to watchover Larry and those he loved and keep them in his mercy and grace

    Sue Engelman says:
I went to school with Larry, and he and I went to Pompano Youth Ranch. Larry was always smiling and had great jokes to share..Phil and I lived next door to him when we were first married and we lived in Hollywood Florida. We often joked back and forth about things in our lives, and also he was a great listener, and of course, loved telling others about Christ. I am praying for all of you in the sudden loss of one so gifted. Blessings and prayers... Sue
