Robin Alvarez, 52, of New Smyrna Beach died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 with her husband by her side after a long and brave battle with cancer . Robin was born May 17, 1958 in Charleston, West Virginia. She graduated from the University of Charleston with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and became an exceptional nurse. Robin was always helping others either in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit or at home with her family and friends. At a young age she travelled to the Florida Keys with her parents for family vacations where she developed a lifelong love of the ocean. Robin enjoyed snorkeling, diving for shells, sailing and relaxing by the water’s edge. She married the love of her life, Terry Alvarez on August 8, 1986. They moved to Cape Coral Florida where they became parents in 1991 and doted on their little boy, and sailed boats for 11 years. They then moved to the Florida Keys for 8 wonderful years where she sold sea shells by the sea shore, and finally to New Smyrna Beach in 2006. Robin cared intensely for her family. She was a beautiful wife, warm and attentive mother, adoring aunt, devoted daughter and caring sister. Her gift of thoughtfulness and putting others before herself is her legacy. Robin is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Terry; son, Jack Alvarez; mother, Patsy Martin; sister, Carolyn Martin and three brothers, Job, Christian, and Steve Martin, as well as her niece Angel Martin who loved her like a mother .
