Obituary
Jacqueline Ann (Kessler) McCollum, age 82, passed away peacefully June 24, 2020, due to
kidney and congestive heart failure. She was born May 6, 1938, in Yankton, South Dakota to Dr.
Wendell and Geneva Kessler. She married her high school sweetheart and love Robert L.
McCollum on May 21, 1960. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Jackie graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Nursing, following in her mother’s
and father’s medical professions. Her father was the local doctor in Springfield, South Dakota
and her mother was a nurse. Jackie worked as a school nurse, public health nurse, and on a
special project on diabetes.
Jackie is survived by her sister and husband, John and Judy Polli of Monterey, California, her
sister-in-law Charlene Dempster; her son and wife Bob and Cathy McCollum, daughter and
husband Shelly and Fred Bechert; grandchildren, Jack Bechert, Samuel Bechert, and Tessa
Bechert and her many nephews and nieces, all of whom she loved dearly.
Her main love was her grandchildren, time spent with them were her most precious moments.
Babysitting and caring for them was a great pleasure. She was most proud of them and their
achievements. Next would be the desire to travel to places all over the world, she loved going to
places she had never been or doing something she had never done before. Her other loves were
kitties, watching sports, shopping and baking for Christmas. She is loved and missed by all who
knew her.
