Obituary
James Edward Bassney, 87, of Summerfield, FL passed away on November 4, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born on December 31, 1937 in Corning, NY to Henry and Isabel (Berry) Bassney. He retired from Corning Incorporated in 1995 after a very successful career in Corporate Security. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan (Abel) Bassney; sons, Michael J. Bassney, J. Joseph Bassney : daughter, Deborah Parish, step-son, John White III, and step-daughter, Stephanie (Todd) Seelye. He is also survived by his grandchildren; William Parish and Christie (Edgar) Rivera, Madison (Brandon) Seelye-Ricks, Reagan Seelye and great-grandchildren; Gavyn Rivera and Presley Seelye, along with several nieces and nephews.
Jim enjoyed countless hours of golf and made many great friends over the years. You always knew where you stood with Jim, he didn’t mix words.
A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, November 20th 10am at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, Summerfield, FL. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, at the convenience of the family. Memorial Donations can be made to; Hospice of Marion County, The Brandley House (Hospice House) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
