Obituary
South Jersey native, James D. Smith, age 82, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on January 17, 2023 after a decade long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
James is predeceased by his mother, Ella Ruth, father, Warren and sister, Janet. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy , brother, Warren, brother-in-law, Millard Tuthill (Arlene), children, Lisa, David (Jen), and Steven (Christy), nine grandchildren, Katie, Johnny, Emmy, Conner (Ashley), Cameron (Nikki), Riley, Lucy, Dylan and Yorke, two Great-grandchildren, Levi and Caroline and niece, Janice Gage (Phil), Nephews, John Smith,
Bill Hess (Dawn) and Michael Tuthill.
An active and baseball loving child, Jim was born to Warren and Ella Ruth Smith in Pennsauken, NJ. Following graduation from Merchantville High School in 1958 and Pierce Junior College in 1960, Jim proudly served in the United States Marines Corps from 1963- 1969. A constant learner, Jim held additional degrees from Philadelphia College of Textile & Sciences and Philadelphia College of the Bible.
Jim was devotedly married to the love of his life, Nancy (Tuthill), in 1965, raising their three children, Lisa, David and Steven in Indian Mills (Shamong) NJ. A long time and trusted Financial Planner, Jim was an active member within his community and church, serving decades as a little league coach, student mentor, Sunday School teacher and traveling vocalist of contemporary Christian music.
A man of integrity, humor, charisma, and perseverance, Jim will forever be known as an unashamed lover of life, Jesus and his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Live Oaks Community Church – Southern Oaks Campus at 5600 Heritage Blvd, Wildwood, FL
( Buena Vista Blvd and route 44), on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 3 pm. A time of refreshments and reflections will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation at Parkinson.org. or 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800, Miami, Fl 33131.
