Obituary

Dr. James Edward "Herschel" Williams United States Military Veteran   James Edward “Herschel” Williams, an Avian pathologist born in Jackson, Tennessee on August 25, 1924 to James Herschel Williams and Minnie Catherine Gillman went on to be with The Lord January 1, 2014. He served in the US Army during WWII. After returning, he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University then went on to obtain a PhD in microbiology at the university of Minnesota. He began to work for the United States Department on Agriculture specifically at the southeast poultry Research Laboratory in Athens, Georgia and worked there until his retirement. At this time he also taught graduate students from the University of Georgia. His main field of study was Salmonella Typhimurium. During this time, he was considered a world expert in Salmonella Typhimurium and after doing years of research, many stories and writings was invited to countries including Russia, Brazil, England and more to share his research. He was a member of central Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia and went on to be a member of First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach after moving to Florida in 1988. He was a wonderful man and light in the lives of all who knew him. James is survived by many loving family members in FL, TN, DE, and PA.
