Obituary
James (Jim) E. Wilson, 87 of South Daytona, FL passed away December 29 with his family at his side. A native of Atwood, TN, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, where he learned his mechanical skills, and love for airplanes, working on B-17 and B-29 aircraft.
Following his discharge, he moved to Chicago, where he met Phyllis Kleinschrodt. They married on January 26, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. A few years after moving to Davenport, IA in 1960, he began his 36-year career with the Federal Government at the Rock Island Arsenal, and later in Orlando, FL.
Jim later earned his private pilot’s license, enjoyed working around the house, yard, and on cars. He was a member of First Christian Church, and was the Past Master of the Roosevelt Masonic Lodge #626 in Davenport.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Phyllis; daughter, Karyn Schultz of Orlando; sons, J. Kent (Teresa) Wilson of Eldridge, IA and Kurt Wilson of Orlando; sister, Frances Churchwell of Huntingdon, TN; brothers, Frank Wilson of Trezevant, TN and Johnny (Betty) Wilson of Clay City, IL; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Lee Wilson, his brother, Billy Wilson, both of his parents and his mother and father-in-law.
James will be buried on Thursday, January 4 at 12:30 with full military honors at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. There will be a Masonic Service prior to that at 10:30 am at the Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in Port Orange, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Halifax Health Hospice in Port Orange, FL. You are invited to share your memories with the family at www.baldwincremation.com.
