Obituary
James (Jim ) Maher 77 of Edgewater, Florida died November 27, 2017 at Halifax Health Hospice Care in Edgewater, Florida. He was born in Lewiston Maine to parents Frederick and Kathleen Maher. He grew up in and graduated from the High School in Mechanic Falls Maine ( MFHS) in 1958. He then joined the Army and served time in Europe ; mainly Germany where he rebuilt Army tank Engines. He was honorably discharged in 1962 in California. He then worked for GTE Utilities nights while attending Long Beach City College days. In 1964, he married his High School sweetheart Elayne Callahan, whom he had known since 3rd grade. They remained in California for 10 years .Then he was transferred to Middletown NY. They lived in Pine Bush NY where they raised their five children. In 1998 he retired from the phone company and they moved to Florida. Jimmy loved hunting and fishing and was and avid golfer. Jimmy and Elayne have traveled extensively all over the world. They also loved camping with friends. He is survived by His wife Elayne of 53 years. Five children.. Theodore of New Mexico, Tammy (Mimi) Evans and Husband Bruce of Connecticut, Michael and wife Lisa Rae of Virginia, Brock and wife Brooke of Colorado, James (Joey) of Texas. 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Brother Fred and wife Mary of Connecticut, Sisters Kathleen of Maine, Maureen Ayers and husband Keith of Vermont, and Aileen Maher of Maine. Brother in law Dan Callahan and wife Judy of Maine, Sister in law Gloria Callahan Gordon and husband Pat of Utah. Many nieces and nephews. Numerous loved foster children. He will be extremely missed and fondly remembered by family and friends from all over the the U.S. especially Cappy and Peter Tacelli and Cindy and Bob Anderson .Many friends at Hacienda del Rio where they reside. Also special friends from Maine known to him as the “gang”. Classmates Red and Sue. Frank and JJ. He is predeceased by parents Fred and Kathleen, Brothers Richard and Brock and sister Nancy. He will be cremated then interned at a future date. A celebration of life will be held at a future date .
