Obituary
On Monday, July 25, 2022, James Gerard Gillin, proud Catholic, loving husband, brother, father of five, and grandfather of seven, passed away at 72.
Jim was born on May 15, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York to James and Rosaire Gillin. He graduated from Siena College in 1972 and starred as a 2-time All-American cornerback. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army while earning his master’s degree in Public Administration at Oklahoma University. Jim helped raise five children: Byron, Brett, Kelly, Diane, and Jeff.
Jim had a passion for world travels. He also loved sports, notably his New York Jets, Mets, and Orlando Magic. Jim was also an extraordinary storyteller, be it the countless on-the-fly bedtime stories for his children or recounting the meaningful connections he’d always make wherever he traveled, Jim would capture your attention with the first sentence. Most importantly, Jim’s greatest love of all was his family. Be they blood relatives, stepchildren, or grandchildren from every walk of life, Jim lived to shower those he loved with affection, words of encouragement, advice, and more than a few jokes. Jim was famous for his quick wit, biting sarcasm, and unparalleled compassion.
Jim was preceded in death by his father James and his mother Rosaire. He is survived by his wife Denise, his five children Byron, Brett, Kelly, Diane, and Jeff, his brothers Terry and Ed, his sisters Maureen and Pat, and his grandchildren Vincent-James, Ruphine, Lucian, Serenity, Jack, Leo, Charlie, and Ava, along with many nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.
