Obituary

James Edward Honea “slipped the surly bonds of earth” on November 22, 2017 with his loving wife and three daughters by his side.  A true Southern gentleman, Jim was born in Gadsden, AL on March 28, 1951 to Crumpton Baxter Honea and Clara Jones Honea but lived most of his childhood in Memphis, TN.  Following graduation from the University of Memphis, Jim was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served honorably as a pilot and commander for 21 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

For the past 15 years, Jim settled into a life of Florida sunshine, warmth and year-round golf and running in Mount Dora.  An avid SEC football fan, you could find him every Saturday cheering on his favorite, Alabama Crimson Tide.

Jim leaves behind to honor and cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Janice Bailey Honea; his daughters:  Courtney (Chuck) Meade, Gretchen (Wilson) Allen, Caitlin (Brian) Hineborg; grandchildren Kayla, Sam and Jackson Meade and Charlotte and Delaney Hineborg; mother Clara Honea; sister Susan (David) Hursey; mother-in-law Mira Bailey; brother-in-law Steve (Gina) Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.

His life will be celebrated at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to St. Jude (https://www.stjude.org) or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

I'm so very sorry, Janice. I couldn't make it to Orlando to go the service today, but wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
