Obituary

Jim was born on October 2, 1942 in Binghamton, NY to Joseph Lord and Mary Banks Kirby. He began his childhood in Bainbridge, NY at his maternal Grandmothers home. A year and a half later his brother Richard was born. For the next 15 years, his mother moved him and his brother back and forth across the country and up and down the west coast. They lived in several different places, attended a number of schools and traveled between Bainbridge, NY and the west coast several times. Jim graduated from high school in Issaquah, Washington, where he played right tackle on the school football team and then attended college at the State University of New York at Oneonta. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1962 and graduated from the Russian language school at Syracuse University. Upon graduation, he was stationed in Germany where he monitored and translated Russian military communications. After his military service ended in 1965, he married Liliane Roy of Afton, NY and resided in Skaneateles, NY where he engaged in stock trading. Unfortunately, this marriage didn’t last but they remained friends and stayed in communication for the rest of his life.

While in the Syracuse, NY area, Jim began his career in the trucking industry as a dispatcher for Red Star Trucking Co. Eventually, he moved to Modesto, CA and continued his employment as a trucking dispatcher in the San Francisco area. He then became a long-haul truck driver for Swift Trucking Co. He drove all over the country and up into Canada until his retirement. He then moved to the state of Florida where he enjoyed his retirement doing yard work and operating his ham radio equipment. Jim liked to stay up to date on domestic and international current events and was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Syracuse University men’s basketball.
He was a good man, a decent man, and the best brother anyone could have.

Jim is survived by his brother Richard Lord (Barbara) and his two nephews, Erik Lord (Robin) and Kirby Lord (Johanna).
