Obituary
Winter Park, Florida – James Patrick “Jeep” Flynn, 43 of Winter Park, Florida, formerly of San Diego, California; lost his battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
Jeep was born on March 24, 1973 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Dr. Margit Writh-Flynn and Joseph James Flynn, Jr. Shortly after Jeep was born, the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. While in high school, Jeep excelled in many sports but was a vital member to both the swimming and wrestling teams, all the while working to perfect his true passion, art. Jeep graduated from Clayton High School, in June of 1992. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and shortly thereafter left for Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center where he graduated in the spring of 1993.
Following Basic Training, he was stationed in San Diego and started the next chapter of his life, graduating from Corpsman School and eventually becoming a Navy SEAL. Becoming a SEAL had been a lifelong dream and lead to the greatest adventures of his life and allowed him to express his patriotism in serving others and his Country.
After his distinguished military career, he worked for numerous defense contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan. The foundation of Jeep’s character has been described by his colleagues as loyalty, honor and courage, which he demonstrated during his several deployments. He served on more than 100 clandestine missions that ultimately lead to him and his teams receiving commendations from both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as the Director of the CIA, Leon Panetta. After being injured in the line of duty and enduring multiple surgeries, he unfortunately had to end his career as a military defense contractor.
Even though Jeep was no longer physically able to work in the field, serving his Country continued to be his priority and thus he founded Green Security.US, an organization striving for energy independence as an essential aspect to long term national security. He was a beloved son, brother and a friend to everyone he met. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Patricia and Joseph James Flynn, Jr. of Winter Park, FL., his siblings; Ian T. Hart of Winter Park, FL, Brigid (Craig) McIntyre of Kobe, Japan, Sarah Aislinn “AZ” (C.J.) Thomas of Winter Park, FL, his niece and nephew Lucy and John McIntyre of Kobe, Japan, his aunt Jean (Rick) Flynn-Fetterman of Chapel Hill, NC, and the Crahan Family of Monument Beach, MA, as well as his loving and loyal four-legged companion, Victoria. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dr. Margit Writh-Flynn and grandparents Ethel and Joseph J. Flynn, Sr.
Family will receive friends following a Graveside Military Funeral Service held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Palm Cemetery, 1005 N. New York Avenue, Winter Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) www.iava.org
