Obituary
Janet Price Moreland of The Villages, FL passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Janet was born on September 3, 1925 in New York City. She was the daughter of the late Theodore Scott Price and Emily Turner. Janet was predeceased by her husband, John A Moreland Jr, a son Peter S. Moreland and daughter Nancy Moreland. Janet is survived by her son, John Moreland (JayDee) of the Villages, FL, her grandchildren, Melissa (Byron) Peek, Gregory Moreland and her great grandson, Blake Peek.
Janet grew up in Teaneck, NJ where she graduated Teaneck High School in 1943. After high school she went on to attend and graduate from St Luke’s School of Nursing in New York City. Jan worked at St Luke’s Hospital for several years before getting married and moving to Vermont.
While living in Vermont, Janet was active in community affairs including serving on the board of the Visiting Nurses Association, the Auxiliary of the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital (Burlington, VT) and chairperson of the hospital volunteer program. Janet returned to full time nursing and served as Head Nurse of the Ambulatory Care Unit of the Medical Center Hospital of VT. While working as the Head Nurse of the Ambulatory Care Unit Janet saw the need for more diabetes education in Vermont for patients, educators and medical staff. Janet was instrumental in the formation of the Vermont Diabetes Association and served as a founding member and on the Association’s board for twelve years. In 1995, Janet received the Life Long Achievement Award from the VT Diabetes Association for her work on behalf of Vermonters with diabetes.
Janet moved to the Villages with her daughter, Nancy, in 2009 where she lived until her passing. Janet will be interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations on Janet’s behalf to the Vermont Association of the Blind & Visually Impaired or the Cornerstone Hospice Foundation (2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778).
