Obituary

Janice (Jan) Nowak, 85, passed away peacefully on November 12, surrounded by her loving family in The Villages, Florida.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Jan made the sunshine state her home in 2013, where she basked in the warm weather she adored alongside her beloved husband, Richard (“Dick”). The two shared a wonderful life together for 64 years — filled with love, laughter, and more rounds of golf and evenings out than anyone could count.

Jan’s entrepreneurial spirit bloomed early. In 1982, she founded Flowers by Jan in Milwaukee — a business that still thrives today under new ownership in its original location. She took great pride in bringing beauty and joy to others through her floral creations.

She was a woman who loved the simple pleasures — a good game of cards, a spirited round of Yahtzee with her aunts, and watching golfers from her home overlooking Hole 5 on the Bogart course in The Villages. Jan was known to joke that her dream house wouldn’t even need a kitchen — she and Dick were too busy enjoying the carefree lifestyle The Villages offered. The staff at TooJay’s in Sumter Landing could probably confirm that!

Jan is survived by her children Debbie and Jeff (Jenny), grandsons Bennett (Molly) and Aaron (Caitlin), her cherished great-grandsons, Clark and Hudson, and brother Jim (Lynn) Evanow. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ceil Evanow.

A lifelong member of the Polish National Catholic Church, Jan’s faith was an anchor throughout her life — first in Milwaukee, and later in Belleview, Florida.

Jan will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her legacy of love, laughter, and beauty will live on in every bloom, every shared meal, and every sunny Florida afternoon.
