Obituary
Jean Elvira Miller Link, 82, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away March 26, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
Her favorite song states it best,” Well, some glad morning when this life is over, I’ll fly away, to a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away.” She woke in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was born on October 17, 1933 to the late Oscar and Annie Miller in Beckley, West Virginia.
Jean graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV in 1951. She was married to the love of her life for 63 years, Jerry Link on May 9, 1953. The couple raised three children in Beckley before retiring to New Smyrna Beach Florida in 1986.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach and prior to relocation, was an active member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church in Beckley, W.V.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dema Miller Fitzgerald.
She leaves behind her husband, Jerry Link of New Smyrna Beach, Fl., a son, Alan Link of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., two daughters, Pam Link Miles and husband Jay of Charleston, WV, and Sherri Link Morgan of Beckley, WV. She also had 7 grandchildren, Christopher Link and wife Stephanie of West Palm Beach, FL, Jeremy Miles and wife Dolly of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Joshua Morgan of Columbus, Ohio, Matthew Link of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Caitlin Palazzola and husband Jared of Knoxville, TN, Jared Morgan of Port Orange, FL, and Jordan Morgan of Beckley, WV. She has 3 great grandchildren, Dylan and Haylea Link of Hillsville, VA and Kaya Miles of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Also surviving are four
sisters, Shirley Richmond and late husband, Roy, of Orlando, FL, Carolyn Makey and husband, Don, of Homasassa Springs, FL , Barbara Moon and husband, Don, of Bakersville, NC and a brother, Douglas Miller and wife, Vicky, of Homasassa Springs, FL. Her family also includes numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Kathleen Doughney and staff for their loving attention and care throughout her courageous 20 year battle with breast cancer. Her strong, humble and kind spirit was extended to all who were around her throughout her hard fought battle. The
Staff of Halifax Health Hospice for the loving care provided for her as well as to her family members during her final weeks and Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home for making final arrangements, guidance and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Halifax Health Hospice, Patient Care/Memorial Fund in her name.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Luke McKinney officiating.
