Jeanne Viola Swanger, 94, New Smyrna Beach passed away peacefully into the Lord’s arms Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Born on September 15, 1918 in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Jeanne spent most of her early years there before moving to Canton, Ohio in 1946 where she met her beloved husband of 64 years Jack, and where they raised their son Steve.
In 1976, Jeanne, Jack and Steve relocated to Captains’ Quarters in New Smyrna Beach where they spent the past 36 years. Jeanne was a graduate of Stout College in Menominee, WI where she received a degree in Home Economics. She worked for the National Dairy Council, operating a branch in Canton, OH.
She was a longtime parishioner of First Methodist New Smyrna Beach and a member of the Bible study group. She especially enjoyed traveling overseas with her husband and son to visit family in Sweden and Switzerland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and Swan Swanson and a brother Willard Swanson. She is survived by her husband Jack, son Steve, niece and nephew Sylvia and George Roman of Mahtomedi, WI, special friends Dina and Steve Wentworth, Ken and Gabrielle Tomory and daughter Anique and loving caretaker Gina Scott, all of New Smyrna Beach, as well as many friends made over the years at Captains’ Quarters and First United Methodist Church.
