Obituary
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Jeffery Ross Benka announces his passing on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the age of 63. Jeff was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 3, 1954 to Walter and Gladys (Swartout) Benka.
He will be forever remembered by his best friend and wife of 37 years, Maureen McGovern. Jeff will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Janice Plass, Walter Benka, Diana Jacobsen and Michael Benka, by his sisters in law, Linda and Hue Sona Benka and his brothers in law, Charles Jacobsen and Edward McGovern. Jeff was predeceased by his brothers John and Randy Benka. Jeff will be adoringly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Jeff proudly served in the US Army from 1971 through 1974 and worked for more than twenty years at the VA Medical Centers in Brooklyn, New York and in St. Albans, Queens. He held various positions during those years where he always worked passionately towards improving the quality of life for hospitalized veterans. Jeff enjoyed traveling, cruising and visiting Disney World. In 2006, Jeff achieved his lifetime dream of retiring to Florida. His life was one hell of a ride and he will be deeply missed!
