Obituary

Jennie Lou Blackmore, 81, formally of Pittsburgh, PA, Roanoke, VA and Indialantic, FL, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2106. She was born on February 21, 1935 to the late General William R. and Frances E. Dunlap of Pittsburgh. She was married to her “precious” late husband, George S. Blackmore for almost 58 years. She was an extraordinary mother to Frances Lynn Gagne (Kevin), Kimberly Ann Blackmore, and George William Blackmore (Kimberlyn). She was the most loving and devoted Nana to grandchildren: Jennifer J Gagne, Carly A Gagne, Kevin Bryce Gagne, Sydney L Blackmore, Alexis Brae Blackmore, George Austin Blackmore and Kylah O Blackmore. Jennie graduated from Winchester Thurston Prep School and Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She loved teaching kindergarten and later was a substitute teacher in the Roanoke County School System in VA and Brevard Co after moving to Florida in 1987. She adored her only sister, the late Eleanor Graham Murphy of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by four nieces and several great nieces and nephews. Jennie never met a stranger and was admired by so many. She had the gift of Hospitality and loved to cook for and entertain anyone who stopped by for a visit. She loved to laugh and tell stories with her cherished friends/sisters that shared a love of travel and cruising. She was a longtime Steelers fan as evident by all her memorabilia. She traveled back to her beloved Pittsburgh whenever possible. She had a loving spirit full of joy and laughter. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 19th, 2016 from 1:00-6:00pm at the home of her daughter, Lynn Gagne in Sanford, Fl. The family would like to thank the staff at The Cloisters of Deland for their compassionate care over the last few years as well as the staff of Kindred at Home Hospice Services.

Jennie and my sister, Deb, were great friends (charter members of the "Fat Sisters" club). Jennie had a wonderful laugh and an exceptional sense of humor, always looking for a bit of fun in any conversation. I admired her as a person and will certainly miss her smile and the joy she brought to all who knew and loved her.
