Jeremiah (Jerry) Francis Durkin, 92, of Kennebunk, ME and North Port, FL, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, FL on Sunday June 9, 2024, following a short illness. Jerry was born on March 31, 1932, in Dover, NH to John J. and Kathleen (Goggin) Durkin. He grew up in Somersworth and Dover, NH.

Jerry attended St. Mary Academy for elementary education. He graduated from Dover High in 1949 and served his country in the US Naval Air Force at Naval Air Station Brunswick during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of New Hampshire, Lowell Institute of Technology and the University of Maryland.

Jerry married Katherine Mary (Kay) Comtois in Kennebunk, ME on September 22, 1956. Kay was the daughter of Gilbert and Madeline (O’Hearn) Comtois. They were married for 62 years.

Jerry had a 30-year career with IBM Corporation in federal systems and retired in 1987.
After Jerry’s retirement, he and Kay moved to North Port, FL.

Jerry is survived by his daughters Katherine Mary Durkin of Tampa, FL and Deborah Farrell of Wittman, Arizona; son Jeremiah Durkin II of Deale, MD; as well as his grandchildren: Christopher Farrell (Olivia), Shandiin Farrell, Morgan Farrell, Kaylyn Fox, and Jeremy Fox; great grandchildren: Alex, Katherine and Alexis; siblings John (Rita) of Dover, NH; Mary Abernathy of Black Mountain, NC; Helen Twomey of Newburyport, MA and Larry (Tanya) Durkin of Addison, ME.

He was predeceased by his wife Kay Comtois Durkin; daughter Jane Fox; brothers Paul, Dominic, James, and Phillip Durkin; and sisters Kathleen Menounos, Sheila Stockbower, and Margaret Rose Lawrence.

Services will be held at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk, ME on Thursday, September 26 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kennebunk Free Library.
