Obituary
BUFKA, JERRY G. 11/01/1939 – 05/08/2018, Citrus Springs, Florida. Jerry G. Bufka, age 78, formerly of Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Lansing Michigan, passed away in Ocala, Florida under Hospice Care with his wife, daughter and son in law by his side. His last 2 years had not been easy for him as he had some dementia and his physical health started to decline; before that, he enjoyed a full life. Having left school early, he returned to obtain a Master’s Degree in Sociology and went to work for the County of Muskegon. His work for the county focused on educating the medical field on caring for Alzheimer’s patients. He then retired early to care for his own mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. He loved riding motorcycles and never missed attending the Muskegon Hill Climb. He shared and passed his love for dirt bike riding down to his 2 sons, while he shared a love of going to the movies with his daughter. He was a sweet and loving man who also loved animals, taking in many strays over the years. He was often mistaken for the country music singer Kenny Rogers. He used to joke that he looked more like Kenny Rogers than Kenny Rogers did. He is survived by his wife of almost 8 years, Lori, his son Brent Bufka, his daughter Stacy (Pot) Donley, their mother Judy Bufka, Daughter in law, Sherry Bufka, 2 grandsons: Keith (Keri) Bufka, Christopher Bufka, 2 great grandchildren: Chase & Tyne Bufka, and 2 Aunts: Louise (Vander Velde) Smith & Marilyn (Gerald) Duvall. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gaylord & Jane (Vander Velde) Bufka, and his eldest son, Jerry G. Bufka II.
