Obituary
It is with great love and sadness we announce the passing of Jerry Vern Morrow, 67, of Ormond Beach, Florida on Friday, December 8, 2023. Jerry never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest.
Jerry was born on April 23, 1956, in Chincoteague, Virginia, to Merton N. (Pete) Morrow and Lorraine Anna Loos Morrow. He was born into a Navy family and loved his early years in Chicago, Illinois, and Honolulu, Hawaii. He was industrious at an early age, mowing lawns when he was only 7 years old. He and his family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, when Jerry was 10, and he remained there into adulthood.
Jerry graduated from Kempsville High School in 1974. He was an avid Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing baseball. His first true love, however, was sailing and racing catamarans. He raced from Florida to Virginia more than once and won many awards.
Jerry began his career with Mack Trucks as a mechanic apprentice which led to his life-long career in the trucking industry. He joined Overnite Freight as a mechanic and advanced to an in-town driver. He transferred to the Richmond branch where he was a dock manager. He continued with Overnite until they were brought out by UPS Freight. There, Jerry progressed to Logistics Manager until his retirement in 2016.
Jerry found the love of his life in Richmond when he met Judy Toothman Morrow. They married on June 6, 1996, and lived many happy years in Richmond. Their dream, however, was to retire to Florida on the beach, and they realized their dream in 2018 when they moved to Ormond Beach. They quickly made many friends and loved their life. Jerry took on many projects at their condo and knew everyone. He could be gruff at times and not always politically correct, but he was loved by everyone none the less.
Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife, Judy Toothman Morrow in 2021, his father in 1978, his mother in 2018, and his brother-in-law Alan Kreglow Parker in 2018. Jerry is survived by his sister, Suzette “Suzie” Morrow Parker of Chesapeake, Virginia, his nephews, Matthew Alan Parker and Kevin Boyd Parker, his niece, Brynn Parker McNeil, and his beloved fur babies, Patches and Ziggy.
The outpouring of sympathy and kindness to us as we arrived in Ormond Beach was heart-felt and very much appreciated. Their love and kindness will never be forgotten. The family would also like to thank the medical team at Advent Health Altamonte Springs for their care during the last week of his life. Services will be private.
