Obituary

Jerry Anne Beard Wehman succumbed to COVID on August 19, 2021 in Clermont, Florida. She was born on July 9, 1933 in Jacksonville, Texas to Mary Elizabeth Moore Beard and James Milton Beard. As a child, she also lived in Lufkin, Jasper, and Houston before moving to San Antonio when she was 12. She attended Alamo Heights High School, Southwestern University, and Trinity University. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and remained active in it until she left Texas.

Jerry married the boy across the street, Louis George Wehman, on November 21, 1953. Jerry and L.G. celebrated over 67 happy years together. A year after their wedding, their first child, Deborah Anne, was born while L.G. was in seminary in Ohio. When he graduated three years later, he received a call to Houston, Texas. The family was happy to return to Texas and would remain there until moving to Florida in 2016. From Houston the family moved to Ganado and welcomed their son Marcus Blair into the family. Next came a move to Bay City and the addition of Jerry’s birthday blessing, Rebecca Dawn, born on her 34th birthday.

The family moved to Columbus and then Texas City, where Jerry finally had the opportunity to finish her undergraduate degree at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. She became an elementary school teacher and made a positive impact on many young lives.

In 1986, Jerry and L.G. settled down in San Antonio, where they were finally able to build their own house after living in a parsonage their entire married life. The large home on a wooded lot was the scene of many happy gatherings of family, friends, and pets. Jerry and L.G. were avid bridge players and played with several groups. Jerry was an officer in the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and active in the church’s quilting group. An avid reader, she also organized and managed the church library.

Most of all, Jerry and L.G. loved to travel, whether by cruise ship, car, or plane. They made wonderful memories visiting numerous foreign countries, U.S. landmarks, and tropical locales.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother James Clarence Beard II, and dear aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her husband, three children, son-in-law David Scott, daughter-in-law Kathleen Wehman and four grand-children, Bethany Anne Scott, Brittany Jordan Wehman, Jacob Ellsworth Scott, and Matthew Cameron Wehman, who all called her by the beloved name of Mutti.

She is already sorely missed, but we know that one day we will be united with her in paradise.

If you would like to memorialize Jerry, please get vaccinated, wear masks in public, and practice social distancing. Donations may be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation or Zion Lutheran Church in Groveland, Florida. A live stream memorial service is planned for next July.
