Obituary

Jesse A. Balmer, 69, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, June 19, at home in New Smyrna, Florida, where he has lived for 28 years. He is survived by his sister, Michele Balmer (Tim Linhart), his brother,  Ed (Judy), his Uncle Paul Bonnaure (Kay), as well as numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Edward, and mother, Leah.  Jesse gave a valiant fight against cancer for over 18 months.

Jesse was born in Sturgeon, Pa., where he graduated from South Fayette High School in 1971. He earned a B.S. in Education from California University of Pa. in 1976. For over 20 years, he worked as a Scheduling Administrator at John J. Kane Hospital near Pittsburgh. He moved to Edgewater, Fl. In 1994 and subsequently moved to New Smyrna, Fl.  In Florida, Jesse worked for several Home Health organizations as a Scheduling Coordinator for over 20 years.

Jesse was an avid sports fan, watching every Steeler, Penguin, and Penn State game. His “Steeler Family” of friends often congregated at his home to cheer on the Steelers to victory. His “best buddy” was his dog, Chelsea, who always wore her Steeler “collar” and bandana on game day. He also enjoyed playing cards with family, going to  Bingo weekly, and soaking up the sun in the family pool!

Jesse will always be remembered for his great sense of humor which served him well to the very end of his life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17, from noon to 2 p.m., at the Baldwin Brothers, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32169. A graveside service will be planned for Sturgeon, Pa. at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to “AdventHealth Hospice Care East Fl. Foundation”, ATTN: John Subers,

To Michele and Tim, we thank you from the bottom of our souls for introducing Jesse to us on one of our yearly visits to Sanibel. We have grown to love him as one of our own, thru love, intelligence and through the energy that binds all of our souls to this life that is granted to us all. Jesse was so humorous and was always spot on when we talked about all the things that brought us all together, including Love, Hate, Politics, the Earth, the Universe and all the energy that bound all of us together. His laughter was by far the thing we remember the most. Jesse we will truly be thankful that you were part of our life...until we meet again (I sure hope we will !!!) Alene and Armand

Jessie was a gentle soul with a great sarcastic sense of humor! Always enjoyed watching the Steelers with him and he always took credit cooking and slaving over the stove, knowing full well Michelle was cooking! We will miss Jessie playing Eurchre and our visits. Love to the family. RIP Jessie
