Jewel L. Slingerland, 76, of Ormond Beach died peacefully Saturday, April 30, 2011. Jewel was born January 23, 1935 in Long Island, NY. She graduated from St. John’s University, Long Island, NY. Jewel served as the Assistant Regional Director for International Non-Profit Governmental Voluntary Organization Catholic Relief Services. As monitoring and supervising Emergency and Socio-Economic Development Assistance Programs in the Middle East, North Africa, India, Asia and the South Pacific. She was a lifelong member and supporter of Animal Welfare and Environmental causes worldwide. Jewel moved to Ormond Beach in 1983 from New York. She is survived by her goddaughter, Gail Noreen Covington and cherished friends, Sheila Richardson, Margaret Cawley and Fran and Michael Pettit.
