Obituary
Cocoa — Jimmy Curtiss “JC” Billings went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20th at the age of 78. He is survived by his former spouse Sue Kundid, sisters Janie and Judy, his four children Mark, Ellen (Sissy), Joseph (Jody), and Melinda (Missy), along with his twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father Lonnie, mother Martha, and his brother JD. JC was, by all accounts, a character both cowboy and comedian. He was a humble man of terrific wit, a man who knew how to take his pleasures seriously. He loved NASCAR, drag races, zippy one-liners, and, in his own words, “having fun and not worrying too much.” JC was born on June 16th, 1943, in Thurmond, North Carolina. His first job was driving a truck for the town of Elkin, be-fore he was hired to make blankets for the Chatham Manufacturing Company. He later bought his own truck and began hauling loads for the construction of Interstate 77. Over the decades, across innumerable miles, JC hauled everything from coal to logs & lumber, to Florida pro-duce. Some claim he once hauled a giant snowball, from the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Elkin, in the backseat of his ’56 Pontiac convertible. In 1963 JC married Sue Walker in Ronda, North Carolina, and together they raised four children. Those who knew JC recall his profound love for cars and trucks, gospel and country music, West-ern films, and ice cream. They remember his signature look: a trucker hat, a button-down shirt half open, a playful grin, and a hot cup of coffee in hand. He of-ten kept a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket and a joke up his sleeve. His death is a painful and tragic loss, yet there is comfort in knowing that JC lived a full and colorful life and is reunited with his parents and brother in heaven. A viewing will be held on Friday June 17th, 2022, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral will be held on Saturday June 18th, 2022, at 11:00am. Both at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Titusville.
