Obituary
Joan Hazel Poole Jones, age 84, completed her life’s journey on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Legacy House, Ocala, Florida.
She was born in Newberry, South Carolina, twin daughter of James Graham Hazel and Leola Farmer Hazel. She attended schools in Newberry, SC and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL in 1951. In 1959 she moved with her husband and 3 children to Ocala, Florida. She was employed by Dr. Eugene Peek Jr. for 18 years. She returned to work in 1979 and was employed by Dr. Thomas Fuller at Ocala Critical Care & Kidney Group until her retirement in 1997.
Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, David Roy Poole, Jr. in 1974, and Fred Alan Jones in 2006.
Joan was a member of Highlands Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and her extended family of 1 brother, 2 sisters, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was an avid reader; and, for years enjoyed painting birdhouses and “rambling” with her husband, Fred, until his death.
Joan was a loving mother to 3 children: Chris Poole (Debbie) of Palm Coast, FL, David L. Poole (Kim) of Ocala, Jennifer Poole Wood of Ocala. She was a devoted “Nana” to 6 grandchildren: Larry Poole (Olenka) of Miami; Jim Poole in Europe; Daniel Poole of Ocala; Courtney Poole of Pennsylvania; Pamela Poole Bair (Philip) of Ocala; and Brian Mitchell Wood of Ft. Lauderdale. Joan’siblings: Jean Hazel Kincaid (twin sister) of Ocala, brother Richard Hazel (Shirley) of Dothan, AL, and Sara Hazel Holley (Charlie) of Cayce, SC preceded her in death. Extended family includes 12 nieces and nephews: John “Jack” Davis of Ocala; Russell Davis of Jacksonville, FL; Graham Davis (Nancy) of Riverview, FL; and Cindy Davis Neel (Tim) of Bartlesville, OK; and Greg Davis of Georgia. Also, her good and steadfast friends and “lunch bunch”: Maureen, Fredna and Annette of Ocala, all of whom have been with her through “thick and thin”.
Celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Park, resting next to her husband, David Roy Poole, Jr.
