Obituary

Joan Marie Wickham

Joan passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020.  She was born to Edward and Jeanette Wolfe in Baldwin, LI, NY.  Joan met Ron, the love of her life, while attending Parsons School of Design, NYC in 1950.

Ron was called back to serve in the Marine Corps in September, and he and Joan were married in the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City, NY in December 1950.  After they raised their four children in Huntington, NY, they moved to Pelican Bay, Daytona Beach in 1987.  Joan went into real estate in 1988, specializing in Pelican Bay.  Through her efforts she sold many homes during her 30 years in the business, making many dear friends along the way.  Both Joan and Ron enjoyed the many social activities as members of the Pelican Bay Country Club.  Joan’s husband, Ron predeceased her, as well as their first born son, Keith.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Wickham, son, Mark Wickham (Janet), son Scott.  Her grandchildren include Brad Williams (Corrie), Garrett and Carson Fulmer, Roxanne Wickham, Lauren and Heather Wickham.  Her great grandchildren include Owen Williams, Emmaline Williams, Graham Williams, and Reed Williams.  Joan is also survived by her loving sisters, Patricia Kettle and Peggy Topper (Martin).  Her family meant everything to her.

A celebration of life will be help at Grace Episcopal Church, Port Orange at a later date due to the Coronavirus, with the Rev. Rick Burhans officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler counties.

"We are but a moments sunlight fading in the grass" You were a woderful Mom and an inspiration in my life. You and Dad always taught us to be patient, kind and when to stand our ground when necessary. Though memories seem to soften the reality of your passing, a strange, intangible feeling of emptiness pursues me still. I wish I could call you today and tell you about a movie we saw last night. You wiuld have enjoyed seeing at your next "movie night" with the family. Those days are gone now but you will forever live in my heart.
    Love you Mom.

Joan was a loving and supportive sister and sister-in-law, for whom family was always the highest priority. She dealt with even the most difficult situation as a challenge rather than a reason for despair. Joan will always occupy a special place in our hearts and never be far from our thoughts.

My dear Aunt Joan, Godmother and rock of our family. Beautiful inside and out she had amazing strength to navigate all of life’s situations with grace and was always there to comfort and support others. She helped my brother and I tremendously through the passing of our own parents, my mother her sister in law. I will never forget her infectious laugh and beautiful face and all the wonderful memories spent in our youth with our cousins and families. See you in heaven Aunt Joan! I love you

Grammy, as I have called her for 38 years, has meant more to me than words can express. She has always loved and gone out of her way for me from the time I was a boy. I have had the privilege of spending weeks at a time with her and each moment is honestly a blessing that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Grammy loved grandpa so well setting such a beautiful example of what love looks like. She loved all of us so well. She really loved people. She loved God. She loved the beach that He created. She was the most strong, intelligent, loving, dedicated, wonderful, amazing person and bright light of a grandmother to me. She was more than I could have ever asked for as a grandmother. I will miss her smile and her warmth for a time and I know I will see her again. I love you grammy!

Grammy was the patriarch of our family. She was the classiest woman I’ve ever known. She was smart, honest, loving, and the only person I know who could read an entire book in a single night. Every second I spent with her was a blessing and she will never leave my heart. I couldn’t have asked for a better grandmother or role model. I will miss her always and do the best I can to carry on her legacy. I love you so much Grammy.
