JOANN WHEATON BEAUCHAINE
MAY 2, 1933 to DECEMBER 9, 2023
JoAnn Wheaton Beauchaine, 90, passed away December 9th at her home in Cape Coral, Florida following a lengthy battle with cancer.
JoAnn was born in Macon, Georgia to Wilmot Darrel and LaMartha Tupsie Wheaton. JoAnn lived in Macon until she joined the United States Navy where she met and married Richard E (Dick) Beauchaine in September 1953. They enjoyed 63 years together, 51 of those years living and working in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Upon retirement, JoAnn and Dick enjoyed travel and cruising for many years until Dick’s passing in 2015.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Stephanie Beauchaine and Darrell Beauchaine both of Cape Coral, Florida, and Anthony Beauchaine and Lisa Beauchaine DeMarco (Frank) both of Durham, North Carolina; grandson, Luke Beauchaine of Durham, North Carolina; granddaughters, Caitlin Chitty of Raleigh and Megan Maccherone of Durham; great grandchild, Gavin Chitty; and two great grandchildren on the way. JoAnn is also survived by her sister, Kay Vance and nephew Bill Vance both of Phenix City, Alabama; and cousins, Marie Wallis Bridges of Lexington, South Carolina, and Joseph Wallis of Dunn, North Carolina. JoAnn was predeceased by her sister Patricia Bass.
In addition to her beloved family and friends, JoAnn loved and thoroughly enjoyed her UNC Tarheels, her many cats, the Cape Coral burrowing owls, and sandhill cranes.
Burial with military honors will be held in early 2024 at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida next to her husband Dick. Date and time to be determined and will be posted on this website.
